Meet Our Team
We are a small, therapist-owned company. We have an exceptional team of therapists with over 45 years of combined experience providing both in-person and teletherapy services. Our therapists have worked in the school, outpatient, and home health settings. We have served students with autism, Down Syndrome, apraxia of speech, feeding disorders, nonverbal learning disabilities, and augmentative and alternative communication needs. In addition, we have extensive case management, IEP and report writing experience. We also have a dedicated team of support staff available to answer any questions.
Taylor Hjelmeland: Speech Pathologist
Originally from Maine, Taylor earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Elmira College in upstate New York and her Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Maine. Taylor has experience in working with clients from infancy through adulthood with a variety of special needs including, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, Down Syndrome, and cerebral palsy. She also has experience in the assessment and treatment of the following: receptive/expressive language disorders, articulation disorders, alternative and augmentative communication, and pragmatic language skills. Taylor has extensive experience in supervision of SLP students and clinical fellows. She is Co-Chair for the Continuing Education Committee for the Maine Speech Language Hearing Association. During her graduate work at the University of Maine, Taylor piloted a teletherapy program for speech and language intervention. In her free time, Taylor enjoys spending time with her husband and two young daughters exploring the outdoors.
Kelly Gorman: Speech Pathologist
Kelly is originally from Boston, Massachusetts. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Stonehill College, and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Kelly has experience in a variety of settings, including home health, outpatient rehabilitation, schools, and private practice. She has provided services via teleptherapy to both children and adults for a number of years. Kelly has experience with expressive and receptive language disorders, articulation disorders, traumatic brain injury, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, dyslexia, nonverbal learning disorders, and early intervention. She also has extensive experience in supervision of SLP students and clinical fellows. Kelly loves providing speech and language therapy via teletherapy in order to serve communities that may not otherwise be able to receive services. Kelly lives in Colorado and loves to spend her spare time outdoors with her three dogs.
Brenda Haaksma: Speech Pathologist
Brenda has been practicing speech pathology for 30 years. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Disorders from Calvin University and a Master of Arts Degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences from Michigan State University. Her passion is to serve children and their families. She started and owned Haaksma Speech Pathology (HSP), a home health agency for pediatric therapies, for 13 years, employing occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech pathologists, and speech therapy assistants. During that time, she developed a teletherapy platform for providing services during the pandemic. After stepping away from HSP, she started once again working directly with clients and students via a remote platform, as well as working for Calvin University as a Clinical Instructor for their distance master’s program. She is married and has three grown children. Her life verse is, "You will go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song." Isaiah 55:12
Joan Tanis: Administrator
Currently living in Caledonia, MI with her husband, 3 children, and her loving dogs Lucy and Skye. Joan has a Master's in Reading and General Education. She has over 6 years of experience in the healthcare field as an administrator. She loves working with therapists who have a passion for serving others and are dedicated to helping children grow and become more independent and successful! She loves spending time with her kids, watching sports, going for walks and drinking coffee with friends.
Jamie Dykstra: Human Resources Officer
After working in several entrepreneurial industries, Jamie moved into the legal field taking on human resources, payroll, insurance and firm administrator. After a successful stint including the merger of two very successful firms, she took on the huge challenge of mom, managing all that entails. As happens, kids grow up so she went back to work in health care, loving all the wonderful, caring people she works with and the day to day challenges and opportunities to utilize her years of administrative and HR experiences. She currently lives in Colorado with her husband and faithful dog, Kimi. Jamie loves going for walks, traveling, boating, and spending time with her family.
